Fire Prevention Week in Ponchatoula

The Ponchatoula Fire Department recently celebrated Fire Prevention Week by opening its doors to schools across the community, offering students a hands-on look into fire safety and the life of a firefighter. This year’s event brought excitement and learning together, as students toured the station and engaged in interactive experiences designed to teach essential fire safety skills. Children had the opportunity to spray a fire hose, practice "stop, drop, and roll" techniques, and even crawl through a simulated smoke maze to understand how to navigate through smoky environments safely.

The department’s creative approach combined education with fun, leaving students inspired and better equipped to handle emergencies. In total, 1300 children and 500 adults from Ponchatoula area elementary schools participated in this exciting week of learning!

Adding to their commitment to training and public safety, the Ponchatoula Fire Department recently conducted a controlled burn to study fire dynamics and behaviors, which was shared in a video on our social media page. This exercise allowed firefighters to observe real-time fire patterns in a controlled environment, deepening their understanding of how fires spread and respond to different firefighting techniques.

The training not only reinforced their expertise but also gave the public an inside look at the skills and preparation required to manage fires effectively. Through both community outreach and advanced training, the Ponchatoula Fire Department continues to enhance its readiness and strengthen its bond with the residents it serves.
