The legacy of Athletic Park has long been an integral part of Ponchatoula, serving as a place where tradition, teamwork, and community pride come to life. Today, we celebrate the return of Ponchatoula High Baseball to this historic field, a milestone made possible through the dedication and perseverance of many. Thanks to the efforts of former Mayor Bob Zabbia and our current legislative partners, State Senator Dr. Bill Wheat and State Representative Kim Landry Coates, this long-awaited restoration is finally a reality. Their commitment to preserving this cherished space ensures that Athletic Park will continue to be a cornerstone of our city’s athletic spirit for generations to come.
A special thank you goes to Public Works Director Jacob Stevens and City Building Official Chris Winburn, whose hard work and dedication were instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Their efforts, along with the support of countless others, have restored this field to its former glory. Although not complete, this week’s games will give our community a glimpse of what is to come!
As we gather at Buddy Dufreche Stadium and Field at Athletic Park, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a future filled with unforgettable moments. This field represents more than just a place to play—it stands as a testament to the hard work, resilience, and unity of our community.
